Package Coalition Responds to Representative Maloney’s Election to Chair of House Oversight Committee

Washington, D.C. - The Package Coalition, a diverse group of America’s leading retailers, e-commerce and logistics companies, applauds the House Democratic Caucus for electing Representative Carolyn Maloney to the position of Chair of the Committee on Oversight and Reform. The following is a statement from Package Coalition Chairman, Secretary John McHugh, in response to today's announcement:

“The Package Coalition is eager to work with Chairwoman Maloney as she takes on her new role on the House Committee on Oversight and Reform. With oversight of the United States Postal Service (USPS), the Committee plays an important role in the long-term success of USPS.

“The U.S. Postal Service contributes over $1.4 trillion annually to the U.S. economy and generates over 7.5 million American jobs. The package delivery business is a bright spot for the Postal Service that is growing and profitable, and helps financially support universal postal services to all Americans. In 2018, revenues from postal package delivery services totaled over $23 billion and contributed $7.6 billion above the costs of providing those services.

“The Package Coalition opposes legislative or regulatory changes that would force the Postal Service to raise its prices above market rates; forcing the Postal Service to raise its prices for package delivery services will harm, not help, consumers and businesses of all sizes, and rural communities with limited options for affordable package deliveries.

“We look forward to working with Chairwoman Maloney and other policymakers to support and sustain reliable, affordable postal package delivery services for all Americans.”
