Americans depend on affordable, reliable and universal mail and package delivery from the United States Postal Service. The Postal Service delivers to every address in the United States, contributes more than $1.4 trillion to the nation’s economy and supports over 7.5 million jobs, all while receiving zero taxpayer subsidy.
The Postal Service is a lifeline for rural communities, and it powers our cities. Package delivery is a growing and profitable business for the Postal Service. In Fiscal Year 2019, package services contributed more than $8.2 billion profit to the Postal Service’s overall bottom line.
Unfortunately, some Washington politicians want to impose a massive package rate hike on the Postal Service. This Package Tax would hurt America’s small businesses, consumers and the Postal Service itself.
America cannot afford the Package Tax, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, which has Americans relying more heavily on e-commerce and delivery services than ever before.
